WiFi seems to have connected most of the devices in the consumer's home, so why not connect smart appliances with it?
The WiFi Alliance intends to change this situation and recently announced a new WiFi technology that can be used on low-power devices. It is said that this new WiFi technology can make the WiFi signal spread farther and the wall penetration performance is better than the previous WiFi technology. If the WiFi federation is not empty, then this new technology is clearly more suitable for smart home and IoT devices.
This new WiFi technology will be called WiFi HaLow, which will be an extension of the upcoming 802.11ah standard. The WiFi Federation intends to validate HaLow products from some time in 2018, but the first HaLow products may be available sooner.
This new WiFi technology can make up for the shortcomings of previous WiFi technology when compared to Bluetooth, which can be applied to fitness trackers, home sensors, security cameras or other home devices. Nowadays, many devices such as cameras already support WiFi technology, but they are rarely used in wearable devices and sensors. HaLow will be a better solution than Bluetooth.
